Now that the new school year has started, we're back to bento-making three days a week. It used to be a challenge at the beginning, but I'm so used to it now. I'm the first to wake up and I try to work quietly in the kitchen as to not wake anyone else up. But Lilo usually follows me to the kitchen shortly after and the sound of her nails on the hardwood floors is what wakes the little guy up. We like the school day morning routines. I just have to make sure everyone is fed and ready to go, and daddy drops him off at school.

Our Life Photographed: More of Summer

This summer we've enjoyed a month of summer school (we tried a parent-participation program so I got to watch S interact with other people and explore the outdoors), we've done some crafting at home including our DIY puzzle, Kiwi Crate projects, flag-making for July 4th decorations and making our very own book. We've devoured a lot of summer fruits including berries, peaches and watermelon (S and his daddy's favorite!), and we even squeezed fresh OJ from oranges in our backyard.

ChitterChatter: Watching TV Ain't All That Bad.

I admit I was one of those moms who was very careful about my kid watching TV at a young age. But now that the little guy is four, all the careful rules are a lot more relaxed. And maybe because of where we are now, it makes me wonder if all those restrictions were necessary. I wonder if we did it all over again, I'd do things in exactly the same way. I know a lot of parents are a lot more relaxed when the second (third, fourth etc.) kid comes along.

S's first year of preschool ended on a high note with his parents and aunt visiting from Japan. They picked him up from school and visited his classroom on his last day. And the week they were here, we were busy entertaining making trips to Brentwood, San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Napa Valley. The little guy loves having guests in the house because every morning he wakes up and he has a house full of people to play with. He sure kept everyone very occupied! The house is so much quieter now, but we've had so much fun and we've done so much already we're appreciating the quiet time.

Highlights include: making lots of preschool friends, finally painting my flower pots, taking a pasta-making class with my little boy, making "gifts" for dada every day and surprising him when he comes home from work, new toys, bento-making, fun times in the back yard and hanging out with a very active baby cousin.

Mother's Day 2014

I am so grateful and honored to be a mother. I am so proud and over-joyed to be S's mother. He gives life purpose, he gives us happiness, and our hearts are constantly overflowing with love. It's the best feeling in the world, watching this little guy grow up and seeing the world through his eyes. This was my 4th mother's day, but it was the first one where S was aware that it's mother's day and what the day means. He had his own plans. "I'm going to pick flowers for you from our yard mama.

Lilo-hood

I've blogged about having a pet before. But truly, everything is better because Lilo is in our lives. There's more happiness, more cuddling, more love and more play. We love her to itty bitty pieces. And we love that not only does our little guy have lots of wonderful memories with her, now little cousin is building some of his own with Lilo (notice how hard he is pinching her and how patient she (always) is). I'm excited to see adventures of this trio (especially since little cousin is getting ready to crawl)!

Life Lately...

This week is spring break! And even though it's been raining everyday and we didn't have anything in particular planned, it's nice to just have quiet time at home (it's even nicer not to have to plan school lunches for a change). Four year old has been a great age so far! Like most moms, I loved every stage we've been through, and at every age I say it's my favorite, so here I am again thinking four is my current favorite. I do miss the baby stages though, the chubby thighs and baby cuddles. Lucky for me, I have my baby nephew for that.

"What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?"

I had my first "what would you like to be when you grow up" conversation with the little guy yesterday in the car. Even though he's only 4 and still doesn't know all the jobs in the world (obviously.), I was curious to see what he considered to be a "cool" job. His first answer was "I want to be super S!" to which I replied "that's not really a job, plus you'll always be super S!" so he thought and thought about it and decided "how about a fireman?" "that is a job! and it requires a lot of bravery. It's a dangerous job" I said.

Our Spontaneous Trip To Taiwan!

We've been enjoying our last minute trip to Taiwan the past two weeks. And by last minute I mean we literally booked the tickets days before leaving. My sister super-expedited her little dude's passport so we can leave in time, and we arrived on chinese new years eve, just in time for our mama's birthday (the biggest reason we decided to go in the first place). Our flight time this time around was perfect and the kids slept throughout both flights.
