Life Lately...

This week is spring break! And even though it's been raining everyday and we didn't have anything in particular planned, it's nice to just have quiet time at home (it's even nicer not to have to plan school lunches for a change). Four year old has been a great age so far! Like most moms, I loved every stage we've been through, and at every age I say it's my favorite, so here I am again thinking four is my current favorite. I do miss the baby stages though, the chubby thighs and baby cuddles. Lucky for me, I have my baby nephew for that.

"What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?"

I had my first "what would you like to be when you grow up" conversation with the little guy yesterday in the car. Even though he's only 4 and still doesn't know all the jobs in the world (obviously.), I was curious to see what he considered to be a "cool" job. His first answer was "I want to be super S!" to which I replied "that's not really a job, plus you'll always be super S!" so he thought and thought about it and decided "how about a fireman?" "that is a job! and it requires a lot of bravery. It's a dangerous job" I said.

Our Spontaneous Trip To Taiwan!

We've been enjoying our last minute trip to Taiwan the past two weeks. And by last minute I mean we literally booked the tickets days before leaving. My sister super-expedited her little dude's passport so we can leave in time, and we arrived on chinese new years eve, just in time for our mama's birthday (the biggest reason we decided to go in the first place). Our flight time this time around was perfect and the kids slept throughout both flights.

A Belated Happy New Year!

It's been forever since I've blogged, and we've since moved to our new house and spent our first Christmas and New year here. It's still a work in progress, but we love it and love that we know we made the right decision picking (what hopefully is) is our forever home because let's face it, moving sucks so much I don't want to ever do it again. I've already made a pact with friends to stop me from moving (whatever the cost). Yes, I hate it that much. So ofcourse, our house is still filled with boxes and our walls are still bare.

Milestone: Dropping The Last Nap

It was a bitter sweet day. Part of me wanted to keep the last nap for as long as I possibly could because it was so nice to have that break in the middle of the day. I catch up on some work, answer some emails and even take naps myself. And I always wondered how I would be able to tell if the time came to give up that last nap, but it was loud and clear this time around and I know we made the right decision.

Introducing: My Nephew Micah!

I've been gone all last week, and a crazy, hectic and wonderful last week it was. My little sister went into labor ten days early, and after an almost 36 hour labor (it's crazy, I know!!) and some superstar pushing (the nurse and doctor kept praising), my nephew Micah was born on Monday October 14th @ 10:13am. At 7 lbs 11 ounces, 20 inches, it's a good thing he came when he did! We were all surprised by how big he was hehe It was a once in a lifetime experience to be there throughout the labor, and I can't even describe how wonderful it was to meet Micah as soon as he entered the world.

Bento Making.

Since our little dude has started preschool (Japanese preschool), I've had to rack my little brain for lunch ideas every Monday and Wednesday night for the past few weeks. It's so tempting to just order lunches through school, but I also want him to get what he likes to eat, and home-packed lunches are also a love-reminder in my opinion. I know he gets excited to open up his lunch box and remember that his mama packed it for him. But it is seriously hard to get creative with the lunches.

ChitterChatter: Making New Friends

Ever notice how easy it is for kids to make friends with complete strangers? It literally takes them minutes to become buddy-buddies, and you'll see them running around and laughing in the park like they've known each other a while. I think we've all noticed. The other day, we were shopping at a warehouse and the owner's little girl was there. She came and took S to see her "hide-out" and after that, they were running around picking out carpet colors and what-nots together like they've been friends forever.

Party At Sea

This blog post is a little late, but definitely worth the wait. We went to Max's first birthday party last month and had a blast. His mom (and my good friend) had told me she wanted the theme to be nautical/water-related because Max loves the water, and as always, she and her husband threw a fantastic party with lots of wonderful details. So even though I knew some of her plans, she still managed to exceed my expectations and I had fun seeing all the things they made! The menu consisted of fish-n-chips, clam chowder, goldfish crackers and ice-cream cone cupcakes.
