Halloween Munchies

This year, we're going to go trick or treating with a few preschool friends. But before we head out, we're having a small potluck so we fill everyone's bellies before knocking from door to door. I'm thinking about making some Halloween-inspired dishes that are both fun to look at and yummy to eat. And as always, I opt for cute Halloween spooks and not the scary and gruesome. Here are some of the things I might be making from around the web:

Adventures of The Bentos

What used to be something I dreaded has now become a fun morning activity, something I enjoy doing quietly on school day mornings when everyone else in the house is still asleep. Yes, that's right! I'm talking about making school bentos for our little guy! Warning: I am far far far from being a bento-making pro. I mean did you see some of the moms out there who make the most intricate bentos in the land? Ones I wouldn't dare eat because they're just too pretty to be eaten?

Micah's 1st Birthday: Maimai-Bear Turns One!

The one year old curse attacked Micah right before his birthday party too! He had a fever on the day-of, but he was a trooper! First birthdays are mainly a celebration of the parents making it as one year parents anyway right? He won't remember that we worked hard to make his birthday party as cute as can be, or that we were screaming when the wind blew the giant balloons into the icing of the cake, or that he was on cloud 9 petting TWO adorable dogs at the same time at his own party. But still, we make the party as cute as can be.

Magnetic Calendar

Our little guy already knows the days of the week, but I'm not sure he fully understands the concept yet. I've been thinking I need to teach him the months of the year soon, and explain how the months relate to the four seasons of the year. It's always easier to teach something new if the method of teaching is fun and engaging, so when I came across this magnetic calendar at the toy store the other day, I was pretty excited!

Digital things have made our lives so much easier haven't they? So much so that you can buy digital packs of posters and card designs and instantly print them out at your home printer, and voila, you have a product! Caravan is a digital download website that sells.. well, digital downloads. They have fun designs of calendars, toys, posters and chalk art. I've seen printable downloads on Etsy, but I'm kind of digging the idea of an entire store based on that idea.

Delightful Books: Gaston

It took us one read at the bookstore to purchase this book for our library. The illustrations by Christian Robinson are adorable and his color choices are impeccable. The story Gaston, written by Kelly DiPucchio, is one about two dog mama's taking home the wrong pups and raising them as their own.

Our Life Photographed

Now that the new school year has started, we're back to bento-making three days a week. It used to be a challenge at the beginning, but I'm so used to it now. I'm the first to wake up and I try to work quietly in the kitchen as to not wake anyone else up. But Lilo usually follows me to the kitchen shortly after and the sound of her nails on the hardwood floors is what wakes the little guy up. We like the school day morning routines. I just have to make sure everyone is fed and ready to go, and daddy drops him off at school.

I believe that decals are truly one of the best inventions ever. The fact that they can now be made into wallpaper size sheets is simply awesome-sauce! Even though they're "temporary" they stick on well and you will barely be able to tell the difference between a decal and real wallpaper. There is no better room in the house for decals than a little one's room or playroom. There are so many very cute decals of everything you can think of under the moon.

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you had a good weekend. We went to a friend's birthday party where S got to play on a slip and slide, swung around on a tree rope and kicked around a soccer ball all day long. It was also his first time beating a pinata to near death. What is it about kids and pinatas? Do they just have this built up aggression bottled inside all their little bodies they need to get out? Or do they really want to see what's inside the pinata? I don't know, but each of the kids were so eager for their turn with the bat.

These past few days, we keep driving by tents being set up for pumpkin patches. Seeing all the orange, black and white buntings and the hay stacks was a little bit of a shock because I didn't realize we were so close to the holiday season already! Can YOU believe we're getting ready for Halloween? This means I need to start thinking about Halloween costumes, and I need to think fast!
