Favorite Toys At 5

These days we buy so many random things and toys for our little ones, but they always end up only playing with a few of their favorite things. Would be nice if we can test out the toys and return the ones our kids aren't interested in huh? At the age of 5, I feel like S's preferences have become more apparent. There are a few things he plays with over and over again everyday, sometimes I'm amazed he doesn't get sick of those things. But I'm not complaining! I love watching him play and he gets more and more creative as he grows up.

Delightful Books: Sparky!

Sparky! Stars a pet who has more to offer than meets the eye and is a perfect book for young animal lovers. I literally read it in the store today and ordered it right away for the little dude. We always hear about kids who beg their parents for a pet but the parents say no for various reasons like the feeding, the cleaning, the walking... so wait till you see what pet the narrator picks!

There's No Place Like Bed

I'm one of those people who think that my bed is THE best place in the whole wide world. If I had a choice, I could probably lay in bed all day. The soft sheets, fluffy duvet and warmth and comfort of my bed.. they're all calling me right now. Especially when we travel. that moment you sit on your hard airplane seat and sleepiness overcomes you and all you wish for in the world is to return to your own comfortable bed. There's no place like it.

Brownies For Breakfast

I wish this post was just me sharing a great brownie recipe with everyone, but it is much much more than that. Today, I'm sharing with you an important reminder: to be deeply grateful for all the people you love, to be grateful for their good health and their presence, and to love them in any way you know how... always. We're human, and more often than not, we get wrapped up in petty little things that, in the big picture, really aren't worth our time.

Our Life Photographed: Japan New Year Trip

So we've been back from our Japan trip for exactly a month today, but we're still talking about all the wonderful things we did and all the things we miss. It was my brother-in-law's first "real" time to Japan (he went once when he was little and doesn't remember much), but he insists that he will be moving to Japan after this memorable trip. What can I say, how can one not love Japan with all it's vending machine, warm toilet seat and amazingly cute everything - glory.

5th Birthday Party!

We had just returned from our winter trip to Japan, and it was only one week away from his fifth birthday. My parents (S's grandma and grandpa from Taiwan) came to visit a few days after we got back home. So it was all kinds of crazies, and that coupled with jetlag meant that I knew I wouldn't be able to plan a party. But then I've always thrown him birthday parties and he was turning FIVE. I mean, how often does that happen?! Once. That's right.

The Gift Of Gifting

Thanks to the world of the internet and especially the world of blogging, there are soooo many more great ideas for gifting during the holiday season. Back in the day when none of this existed, we'd usually think "um... wallet? shirt? winter gear?" but look at all the ideas that are out there now. It's all broken down into categories like: "for the foodie", "for the young at heart", "for the friends who have everything"... and then there are all the giveaways that gets everyone even more excited this holiday season.

Around The Globe

One of S's wish-list items is a world globe, and as simple as that sounds, it's amazing how hard it is to find a nice one that I would actually want inside our house hahaha The best options I've found so far were at the World Market. They're basic enough and affordable enough, but part of me is determined to find something better.

There is nothing S enjoys more than doing arts & crafts. He can do it all day. I love how creative he is (sometimes he has better ideas than I do!). And I love the process of him describing his ideas to me so I can help him make whatever it is he has in mind. For example, the day we went to get our Christmas tree, he decided to make him and his friend some ornaments. I just saw him running back and forth between the office and his bedroom. He had his desk lamp turned on and he was busy cutting and cutting paper.
